Why Can Liners Matter: Chemistry, Shelf Life & Supply Chain Efficiency
Most brands think of the can as a blank canvas for marketing. But it’s what’s inside the can — the liner — that can make or break a beverage’s performance in the marketplace.
At VulCan Packaging, we work with brands that have outgrown the limitations of traditional spray-lined cans. Our aTULC™ technology uses a PET-based, pre-laminated liner. Here’s why that matters:
1. Liner Chemistry = Barrier Protection
Traditional spray liners use BPA-NI epoxy coatings that require heat and solvents to apply. These liners can degrade or leach into the beverage, especially with acidic, high-alcohol, high-sodium, or probiotic drinks. Our pre-laminated PET film is inert and uniform. It doesn’t absorb, break down, or react with your formulation.

2. Better Shelf Life
Reactive liners can cause flavor drift, color changes, sedimentation, or even gas loss over time. VulCan’s aTULC™ liner protects against that. It’s a stable barrier that preserves flavor, clarity, and carbonation, helping beverages hold up longer on the shelf or in transit.
3. Fewer Packaging Failures
Liner breakdown is one of the top causes of can recalls and off-spec product. With aTULC™, you eliminate the variability of post-formed liner application. Every coil is laminated in a controlled environment for consistent quality at scale.
4. Supply Chain Efficiency
With longer shelf life, your can build your inventory to meet the demand and remain viable longer in retail channels. That translates to fewer write-offs and more flexibility in your distribution strategy.
